Important Reminders

Student IDs- Beginning in March, students will be required to display their student IDs upon entering the school campus. Currently, they are required to have them at all times while on campus to ensure they are in the right locations when their class has a substitute, attend school events, and participate in other related school activities.

Student Safety - Once students are on campus, they are required to stay on campus unless signed out by a parent or guardian. This is to ensure that all of our Olympia students are safe and supervised at all times.

Cell Phones & iPads/tablets & Headphones - From first to last bell, students may not use cell phones, iPads, tablets, smartwatches, earbuds, or headphones. Per OCPS policy, all devices must be silenced and stored in a backpack or purse for the entire school day, including during class changes and lunch. If a student is found using a device, they will be required to turn it in. After the first offense, progressive discipline will follow. For more information, visit www.ocps.net to view the Code of Student Conduct.

🚨 Seniors: VITAL Financial Aid Assistance Next Week!

Next week, Monday through Friday, I will be visiting Government and Economics classes specifically to help seniors complete their FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and FFA (Florida Financial Aid Application).
  • Why it’s VITAL: Completing these applications is the only way to access federal grants, work-study, and Florida-specific aid like Bright Futures.
  • Don't Leave Money on the Table: Many institutional scholarships (money given directly by the college) require a FAFSA to be on file, even for merit-based awards.
💰 Institutional Scholarship Search
If your student has already been accepted to a college or university, congratulations! Now is the time to go to work:
  1. Log into your Applicant Portals: Most universities have a dedicated scholarship section within their portal. Search for "Institutional Scholarships" or "Endowed Scholarships" and check for separate deadlines.
  2. Xello is a MUST: For all other local and national searches, Xello is your best resource. Log in via LaunchPad, click "Explore," and use the "Scholarships" dropdown on the right.

🚀 Attendance Matters!
We cannot stress this enough: Attendance is a key factor in post-secondary success. Colleges and technical schools review final transcripts.
  • Consistent attendance builds the habits necessary for the workforce and the military.
  • Every day in class is an investment in your future journey.

📧 Communication Check-In Information is moving fast! Please ensure your student is checking ALL of the following daily:
  • OCPS Student Email
  • Personal Email
  • College/University Applicant Portals

Student Services News: Mindfulness & Relaxation

The Student Services focus for this week is Mindfulness & Relaxation: Simple exercises for calm and focus.

In the busy rhythm of the second semester, helping students find moments of calm is essential for their mental clarity and academic performance. Mindfulness isn't just about sitting still; it's about training the brain to focus on the present moment, which reduces anxiety and improves concentration.

Try These Simple "Calm & Focus" Exercises at Home:
  • The 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique: To quickly quiet a racing mind, have your student identify:
  • 5 things they can see
  • 4 things they can touch
  • 3 things they can hear
  • 2 things they can smell
  • 1 thing they can taste
  • Square Breathing: Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds, and hold for 4 seconds. Repeat this 3–5 times to physically reset the nervous system.
  • The "Brain Dump": Sometimes focus is lost because the mind is too full. Encourage your student to spend two minutes writing down every "to-do" or worry on their mind. Once it’s on paper, the brain feels "permitted" to focus on the task at hand.
