Florida Law & OCPS Policy
Attendance is mandatory under Florida Statute 1003.21 and OCPS Board Policy JE. Schools must monitor absences and address unexcused patterns.

Florida Law & OCPS Policy
Attendance is required by Florida law and OCPS policy. Schools monitor attendance and intervene when patterns of unexcused absences occur.

Daily Attendance Expectations
- Attendance is the responsibility of both students and parents/guardians.
- Students must be in class when the bell rings; tardies are recorded immediately.
- Absences are marked unexcused until valid documentation is submitted until valid documentation is submitted
- Missing more than half of the school day counts as a full-day absence.

Submitting an Absence Excuse (Absence Excuse link)
- Submit documentation within 2 school days of the absence.
- Excuse notes must come from a parent/guardian email account.
- Submitting documentation does not guarantee an absence will be excused.
Excused Absences May Include
- Illness or injury (doctor's note required for extended absences)
- Family illness or death (immediate family that lives in the same residence)
- Religious holidays
- Medical or legal appointments
- Approved school activities or educational absences
- College visits (Juniors/Seniors, up to 5 per year)
- Head lice (up to 4 days per year)
- Catastrophic events (e.g., natural disasters)
Make-Up Work
Students are allowed time to make up missed work for any absence. At least one school day per day absent must be provided.
Attendance & Student Privileges
Participation in activities such as Prom, Homecoming, parking privileges, and senior events requires meeting PROUD TITAN expectations, including attendance, academic, and behavior standards.
Truancy Consequences
A pattern of unexcused absences may result in truancy interventions, loss of privileges, and possible driver's license consequences.
- Students reported after 15 unexcused absences or withdrawal with a dropout code.
- DHSMV issues notice of pending suspension.
Reinstatement: Attend 30 consecutive school days without unexcused absences and tardies, then submit compliance form (HSMV 72870) to the Attendance Dean for verification and signature.
