The CCRC: Your Senior's Hub for Success

Navigating College Decisions: Be Kind to Yourself
The time for college admissions decisions is here, and it can be highly emotional. Please encourage your students to be kind to themselves and others during this sensitive period.
  • Celebrate Success, Then Stay the Course: If your student receives positive news, celebrate! However, it is absolutely essential they STAY THE COURSE academically. Colleges and universities will request mid-year grade reports and check attendance. A drop in academic performance or attendance can lead to an acceptance offer being rescinded.
  • Finding Your Place: If your student does not receive the news they wanted from a particular school, please remind them that there is an abundant amount of opportunities waiting for them, and they will find their place. We encourage every student to utilize the CCRC for resources and help exploring all available paths!

💰 Scholarship Focus: The Winter Break Advantage
The upcoming break is the perfect time for seniors to dedicate uninterrupted time to scholarship applications.
  • Make a Plan: Encourage your student to treat scholarship work like a job—even an hour a day makes a huge difference in submitting competitive applications.
  • Deadlines Are Now: December and January bring many major deadlines. You can find all local and national opportunities in Xello and at the school link: www.tinyurl.com/OHS-SL-25-26.

Student Services Corner

Student Services News: Digital Wellness

The Student Services focus for this week is Digital Wellness: Balancing screen time and mental health.

In today's connected world, digital devices are essential for learning, but too much screen time can negatively affect a student's sleep, concentration, and emotional well-being. Finding a healthy balance is key to staying sharp and reducing stress as the semester concludes.

Four Tips for a Healthier Digital Life
Encourage your student to implement these simple habits to practice digital wellness:

1. Schedule a "Digital Sunset": Establish a no-screens rule for at least 30 to 60 minutes before bedtime. The blue light emitted by devices interferes with the body's natural sleep cycle, making it harder to fall asleep and stay rested.

2. Create Tech-Free Zones: Designate certain areas or times as completely screen-free, such as the dinner table or your student's bedroom. These intentional breaks provide space for face-to-face interaction and genuine relaxation.

3. Curate Their Feed: Teach your student to be mindful of what they consume online. If an account or type of content consistently triggers negative feelings, comparison, or anxiety, they should unfollow or mute it. Encourage them to seek out content that is positive, educational, or inspiring.

4. Use the Phone's Tools: Show your student how to use their phone's built-in screen time monitoring tools and focus modes. Setting app limits and monitoring usage can help them become more aware of how they spend their time and motivate them to take control.
